Sunday, July 1st -- Celebrating July Fourth a little early was a blast! Or one might call it a bolt of lightning. On Sunday, July 1st, approximately 20 AFPGH members and friends gathered at Pittsburgh's famous "Fruit Loop" for our annual Fourth of July picnic. Barbecued chicken and hot dogs were paired with a large selection of chips and salads, and then topped off with home baked brownies, all making for a nice, but brief afternoon in the park. The monsoon rain did bring about an early end to the festivities, but on an optimistic note, the downpour can also be said to have brought people together. OK, it was for warmth, but it still counts!
Saturday, July 28th -- Margaritaville returned to Pittsburgh with an international cast. The stars were in alignment, the rains held off, and the crowd was in a party mood. Ed B. threw a fabulous pool party at his house in Squirrel Hill. Approximately 50 partygoers enjoyed a fun-filed evening by the pool, sipping on frozen drinks, and sharing a wonderful time conversing with old and new friends. Many took a liesurely dip in the pool and were able to enjoy watching the stars in a environment that was both relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time.

Saturday, August 18th -- Annual Pig Roast at Brian B's farm. Those who have made the trek North from Pittsburgh to past roasts have raved about the great times they have had. Join us this year to make the event even better. Carpooling is available. Call 412-521-5451 for details and directions.
Friday - Sunday, August 24th - 26th -- A special pre-IFW weekend for A & F groups from Columbus, Detroit and Pittsburgh is being planned by Asians and Friends Cleveland. Events will kick off Friday evening at the Cinematheque Chinese Movie Festival, followed by dim sum the next morning, an afternoon barbeque by the lake and an evening in the Theater District. The weekend will conclude with a visit to Six Flags Worlds of Adventure on Sunday.
Friday - Monday, August 31st - September 3rd -- International Friendship Weekend (IFW) 2001 - Several AFPGH members will be heading to Texas for the Labor Day weekend to join in this annual event which brings together many U.S. and international organizations to celebrate cultural diversity and to make/renew lifelong friendships. Asians & Friends - Houston is the sponsor of this year's event. The registration fee ($236) includes most of the meals and transportation to events outside the host hotel, including a private shuttle service to the “colorful” side of town, Montrose, on Friday and Saturday night. Come join us and make this an outstanding affair to remember.
Sunday, September 2nd (12:00 noon) -- End of season picnic and pool party. For those who are staying close to home for Labor Day, come over to Squirrel Hill for a dip in Ed's pool. This will be a potluck picnic with grills and drinks provided. Email Ed at afpgh_web@hotmail.com for info and directions.
Saturday, September 15th -- Japanese theme Dinner at Sushi Too in Shadyside. Ralph has volunteered to help coordinate this event. Please contact him soon as he will need to have a head count to finalize the reservations.

Friday - Monday, August 30th - September 2nd, 2002 -- International Friendship Weekend 2002 will be on a gay cruise ship sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas over Labor Day Weekend. Make your plans to attend now.
