Asians & Friends - Pittsburgh (AFPGH) is a non-profit, volunteer, gay association, formed to promote friendship, and increase understanding, between Asians, Asian-Americans, and non-Asians, through social and cultural activities, education and services. Formed in 1990, AFPGH has approximately 50 members with diverse backgrounds, interests and occupations. Most reside in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area but some maintain ties from locales throughout the world.

AFPGH is associated with the International Friendship Alliance, which consists of organizations that strive to promote interest in gay Asian society and culture in many major cities throughout the United States.

Our monthly newsletter Ring Of Fire communicates upcoming events, community activities and general news of interest to the membership. Recent issues have included reviews of the gay Asian scenes in Atlanta, Columbus and Toronto. The editorials have delved into several challenging topics such as racial stereotyping in the U.S. and the treatment of gay Asians in China.

Each year we have attracted more members and more friends. AFPGH has a variety of members of all nationalities and ages who get together for monthly functions in a non-threatening environment. Our members have developed solid friendships and enjoy the camaraderie of each other's company. In the past, we have enjoyed:

Monthly potluck dinners at member's homes and apartments. A variety of ethnic dishes have been served, critiqued and devoured.
Weekend trips to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Washington, DC, and Toronto, Canada, where we stayed with hosts of Asians and Friends groups in those cities. Members have also traveled to Asian events in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, and London, England.
Cultural events such as the Japanese Kodo Drummers. When the Broadway productions of Miss Saigon and M. Butterfly were in town, we hosted several after show socials for the cast, orchestra and stage crew.
Movie nights where we get together to enjoy Gay or Asian films such as Macho Dancer, The Outcasts, A Wedding Banquet, Happy Together and Queer As Folk. Not reluctant to stay on one side of the camera, several of our members have been involved in movies shot in Pittsburgh, including Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Boys on the Side, Roommates, Sudden Death, Innocent Blood, Wonder Boys, and Dogma.
Activity nights where we visit various Asian restaurants throughout the Pittsburgh area. Activities also extend to bowling, miniature golf, camping and canoeing, and discussion sessions at several of Pittsburgh's more popular coffee shops.
Monthly business meetings where we plan the activities we hope our members will enjoy. We are always looking for new activities.

If you would like to get to know gay people of all nationalities, races, backgrounds, including students, professionals and, in general, all kinds of genuinely nice people, we hope you will come to one of our activities.
