Date: Sat, 7 Oct 1995 21:03:51 -0800 From: jessea@uclink2.berkeley.edu (Jessea NR Greenman) Subject: LGBT Youth Resource Info PLEASE DISTRIBUTE, REPRINT AND CROSS-POST AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE **************************************************** The Indianapolis Youth Group (IYG) operates a tollfree, youth-to-youth helpline for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth that has proven to be a very valuable resource to these teens. We would appreciate if you would distribute this contact information as widely as possible, particularly through printed materials that reach other lesbigayt individuals, and most particuarly, youth. Post it on your web pages. Post it on BBSes and in forums in online services. Make sure your local (queer and non-queer) newspapers have it. Send it to your local high schools, to the counselor's offices and to the school newspapers. If you're a teacher, post it on the wall of your room, if you can. And redistribute this message to others who can help. IYG has trained volunteers waiting for calls, and they're eager to help! Please help spread the word. Chris Kryzan, Executive Director !OutProud!, The National Coalition for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Youth ********************************************* ********************************************* From: Jeff Walsh Date: Tue, 3 Oct 95 06:33 PDT Subject: YAO October Update Youth Action Online, which is dedicated to providing queer and questioning youth a safe space online, announces its October features available at http://www.youth.org/ Linnea Due, author of Joining the Tribe: Growing up Gay and Lesbian in the 90s, is the featured interview this month. Due talks about the teens featured in her new book, how her views of growing up gay were "shattered" and how writing the book made her reflect on her own life. YAO also runs a monthly column titled Profiles in Courage, which focuses on one gay youth per month. This month, Matt Marco, 22, of Washington D.C. is the featured interview. Marco was nearly killed by his father, and talks about how that experience made him an activist for glb youth and how along his journey he built his own family, one that loves him unconditionally. Marco was the youngest member of the national steering committee for the 1993 March on Washington. He also carried the banner in the front of the political march. Check it out! Peace. There are more than 3,700 organizations in the database, throughout the U.S. and Canada. Our goal is to have every organization that serves queer youth (13-21) included, and are asking for your help in identifying organizations in your area. We particularly would like to add more of the following: - Lesbigayt youth groups - Gay/straight alliances in high schools - College lesbigayt groups If you belong to any one of these, please email us the following: organization name, school name (if it's associated with a school), mailing address, phone number, email address (if they have one). If you know of someone associated with such an organization, please copy them on this message. You can send your replies to queeramerica@outproud.org. If you would like to perform a search on our database, please visit us at http://www.outproud.org/outproud/ and go to QueerAmerica. Thanks for your help!
