The Maine SpeakOut Project

The Maine Speakout Project for Equal Rights, a tax-exempt educational project of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Augusta, Maine, began in April 1995 in response to a statewide ballot referendum that sought to deprive non-heterosexuals of legal protections from discrimination.

The Project trains and deploys volunteers to speak with citizen groups in their towns and regions about their lives and the lives of others who experience discrimination in Maine.

    Established in the Summer of 1987 as a grassroots response to the needs of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS, the Eastern Maine AIDS Network serves Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Aroostook Counties.

    Our primary goal is to provide support to clients who are living with HIV/AIDS. We also provide education, outreach, and HIV Antibody testing to the general public.
