US Supreme Court overturns the CDA, "Communications Decency Act"
On February 8th, 1996, President Clinton signed The "Communications
Decency Act", legislation including a provision which limits
freedom of expression on the Internet.
With this act, the very same materials which are legally available
today in book stores and
libraries would be illegal if posted on Web sites or Usenet
newsgroups.
The QRD is one of the twenty plaintiffs
in ACLU et
al. vs. Reno,
the court action challenging the "Communications Decency Act".
On June 26th, 1997, the US Supreme Court
struck
down the CDA.
See the QRD's
statement on this decision.
