Aims Of Section
=================
At the time of writing there are over 20 support groups for
gay, lesbian, and bisexual police officers and criminal
justice personnel around the world. Although the main
purpose of these groups is to provide support to officers
who often find themselves in very isolated and vulnerable
situations, it is also clear that the presence, and active
involvement, of out-gay criminal justice personnel has a
significant impact on the way lesbian, gay and bisexual
people are dealt with by the police and the justice system.
Consequently, the existence of these groups is important
both for the glb community at large, as well as for people
working within the police establishment.
This section of the QRD is intended:-
- to provide information and assistance to glb-police and criminal justice personnel setting up new support groups around the world.
- to help existing glb-police and law enforcement groups around the world communicate more effectively with each other and to provide a forum for the sharing of new ideas.
- to facilitate the organization of an annual international conference of glb-police and other criminal justice professionals.
- to promote the organization of an international federation of glb-police and law enforcement groups which will have the responsibility of keeping this section of the QRD accurate and up-to-date, producing an international newsletter, and ensuring that an international conference is organised each year.
- to make available a central knowledge base of useful documents such as constitutions, newsletters, contact lists, reading lists, and other information which will assist in the formation and development of glb-police groups worldwide.
- to provide useful information to community activists and researchers working to improve the releationship between the lesbian, gay and bisexual communities, and the police.
The files in this section are currently being maintained by legalmn2@aol.com. This section is
very new, and all comments, suggestions, and contributions would be very welcome.
