Performance Positive is a series of events organised by the PRIDE
HIV/AIDS Community Development Project at PRIDE Sydney Gay & Lesbian
Community Centre. It is supported by the NSW Health Department. 
Behind the glitter lies a serious purpose: the need for safe spaces in
which issues are addressed that our community needs to explore.
Our objectives are to present a wide range of issues relating to the
impact of the virus on our communities. Through performance we can
express feelings and collectively explore different issues in a relaxed
atmosphere.
This use of performance as a educative tool isn't new. Africa, Asia,
Latin and Central America, the United States, aboriginal people in
Canada, positive and negative alike; it's already been done. Yet `the
message' is often translated to `First World' audiences through
performance either through, for example, a play written by Larry Kramer
or a film by Derek Jarman. 
As a method of communicating ideas, experiences, stories and education,
performance has a long and estimable history (and has been the subject
of numerous studies showing exactly how it does indeed work)

and posters plus some press coverage and relevant articles. These pages
