Oil company (male), Govt Training Institute (male), teacher trainers (male/female), Govt departments (male/female). email:malachym@hotmail.com info June 00" Editorial comment (unusual for this site): Caution to Teachers and Request for Updated Information: Correspondents are requested to update the editor of this site in relation to the treatment particularly of "gay" male teachers or others working on government (especially military) or other contracts in this state; the surveillance and "bugging" of employees from other countries; any incidents of arrest, interrogation, secret trial by police or military officers without the knowledge or awareness of the full situation by the employee and/or trial without legal representation or explanation of the charges; fabrication or exaggeration of claims of wrongdoing or evidence or events by military or other security officers; imprisonment of any employee when in dispute with the employer or for any other reason that should be unthinkable in a present-day civilised society; the deportation of, and any subsequent international defamation of character or harassment via national and international "security" and/or "secret" agencies or societies, of professional and other workers so mistreated or others - and this perhaps involving additionally an individual worker's loss of earnings, loss of contracted for gratuity or bonus, and/or other consequential financial loss or distress to the worker, such as involved in the refusal to supply a true or factual or any reference or written statement at all for the period of employment; or the non compliance with international charters/agreements on human rights and freedom of expression and thought. Are some printed articles in mainstream quality international newspapers still censored by being physically cut out of the newspapers before sale? Are workers who are legally entitled to purchase alcohol from the alcohol consortiums in any instances still coerced into supplying such products to persons in authority over them at work who may not be entitled so to purchase or possess those articles themselves? Are the passports or other personal legal papers of people from other countries working in Qatar confiscated by the employer until such time as the worker's employment contract expires and he/she is required to leave the country ? Are persons of other nationalities entitled to set up in business in Qatar in their own right, or to move there to live and to be entitled to any state benefits and allowances? Are women allowed to drive; to what extent can they work; are they permitted to be in the presence of males who are not their close relatives ? Are they permitted to speak to a male person when they are not accompanied by their brother or husband ? Is a female permitted to speak to a male person over the telephone or via email ? Are driving licenses from other countries with long-established and sophisticated road and traffic systems recognised yet ? Are visitors to and foreign residents working in Qatar required to remain permanently celibate? The confidentiality of correspondents will be respected and any official responses to the points raised will be considered for publication. webmaster@englishexpert.com 7th June 2000 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This message is from the HKQueer mailing list.
