Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 21:51:47 +0100 From: David Subject: OutRage! Press Release- House of Lords Vigil. OutRage! has considered the arguments put forward by YouthSpeak and others that the Vigil should be cancelled. Whilst we understand Chris Morris's concern that the Lords may be discomfited by our presence, we have no real reason to expect that this will be the case. The Vigil will be restrained and dignified, as was the Vigil on the night of the Commons vote. We have confirmed with the House of Lords Information Office that the debate will begin between 4pm and 5pm. They expect the vote to be taken between 9pm and 10pm. The Vigil will be from 6pm on Wednesday 22 July and will continue until the result of the vote is known. We urge as many people as possible to participate. We must show that we are determined to achieve equality. It is ludicrous that an undemocratic body should be able to take a decision that affects millions of people. Particularly so, when their only claim to authority is that most of them are the latter-day consequences of illicit ancestral royal rogering. They represent no one but themselves and the Establishment.
