Subject: Lesbian Movement in Slovenia, 1984-1995

An Anthology of the Lesbian Movement in Slovenia, 1984-1995

The anthology covers the period of the organized lesbian movement in
Slovenia (and former Yugoslavia) between 1984 and 1995. The editors
have briefly touched upon particular explanations concerning lesbianism
as well as, in the chapter titled "Occurrence", research and interviews
that took place before 1984. Using various theoretical approaches, the
first chapter entitled "Definitions" attempts to answer the question of
what lesbianism is. "Action" contains texts testifying to the organized
movement in Slovenia lead by the lesbian group LL. The opening text
briefly outlines the history of lesbian movement in Slovenia. "desire"
reflects relations within lesbian community. The last chapter entitled
"Production" talks about lesbian politics, culture and art in Slovenia
as well as abroad. Author presents some famous lesbian artists who made
their name in various fields of artistic creativity. testimony" brings
together interviews with profiled women artists and activists; some of
whom are lesbians, others aren't, some come from near, others create in
areas far away;l however, they all relate their creativity, (political)
stance and life experience through the articulation of lesbianism. The
chapter titled "Erotica" is devoted to lesbian fantasies, lesbian erotic
productions and the results of a survey on sexuality among Slovene
lesbians. This chapter also attempts to penetrate the field of lesbian
sexuality "from within". "Identity", the last of the chapters, includes
texts concerning the development of lesbian identity and its variety as
far as coming-out is concerned. It is followed by interviews with
Slovene lesbians that bring to light their lesbian experiences,
coming-out, as well as their views on the Slovene lesbian movement and
scene. "Yearbook" depicts the history of the organized lesbian movement
in Slovenia over the years, and lists in detail the projects, events and
activities. The anthology is comprised of texts published previously in
lesbian and gay magazines as well as, as yet, unpublished magnetograms
and interviews. The anthology also includes photographed by established
lesbian authors from Slovenia. The publication of this book was
facilitated with the help of The Global Fund for Women organization,
California, USA and the Open Society Institute--Slovenia.
