This is what I have to report: Yesterday (13 February 1996) I attended a meeting led by Hong Kong Legislative Council Member Christine Loh. The topic of the meeting was strategies for pushing forward the Bill Banning Discrimination Based upon Sexual Orientation. Various LegCo members, academics, activists, and others around the room volunteered to undertake various tasks to help. A task of mine was to try to set out queries on the Internet to people around the globe who have engaged in battles to get such anti-discrimination legislation on the books. I have made a start. I posted a message on "alt.homosexual", which is a Newsgroup has gay related postings. There are one or two similar newsgoups/billboards that I know of. Does anyone know of any other spots on the Internet that I can put out my queries on? I would also like to find out whether any group has done a study that shows that non-discrimination against gays promotes economic efficiency? What I mean is that if a company fires someone because the employee is gay, and then hires a less competent person who is straight, then the company will suffer because it will not have the best, most qualified person in the job. If anyone has any ideas about how I can get my message across to people on the Internet, so that we can get feedback very quickly (before the consultation period for the "Pink Paper" is over -- 31 March 1996 -- please let me know.
