Seattle's leather community turned out to eat cheesecake and help raise some funds for a worthy cause earlier this month. There was more cheesecake than could be eaten at the 2nd Not So Annual Cheescake Contest held at The Cuff on December 21. The Contest was a benefit for the GMSMA Legal Defense Fund. Six contestants brought in an extravagent array of cheesecakes, from Death by Chocolate to Whidbey's Cheesecake to A Cheddar Cheesecake. The judges, SLA 1997 Dragon Xcalibur, GLPW's Dave Lewis, Beyond the Edge Cafe owner Allena Gabosch, Venus owner Julia Kaplan and Cuff owner Scott Rodriguez had a tough task to choose between the entrants. Contestants were judged on taste, texture, appearance and presentation. Winner Kristen Knapick had not only a wonderful, traditional french cheesecake, served with chocolate and raspberry sauces, but an elegant presentation including music, coffee, silver service and each judge was treated to Ms. Knapick's personal ministrations as well as she fed each judgea bite of cheesecake. The 1st runner up was Bonnie Cromwell with her Marble Cheesecake and the 2nd Runner-up was Rick Yarbrough with his Uncle Henry's Uncut Cheesecake. "We had a nice turnout and helped raise some money for GMSMA," noted co-host Spencer Bergstedt. "People got to eat some great cheesecake, laugh a lot and even take some cheesecakes home during the auction portion." But perhaps the most fun to be had was when Judge Julia Kaplan bought at auction the opportunity to throw a cake at Co-host Billy Lane. Billy ended up face first in the Whidbey's Black and Blue cheesecake with Julia's capable assistance Meet me at The Lava Lounge www.wolfenet.com/~aubrey/lava.htm
