Date: Wed, 10 Apr 1996 06:18:26 -0700 (PDT) From: jessea@uclink4.berkeley.edu (Jessea NR Greenman) Subject: Full text of DISD policy adopted DALLAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION ADOPTED MARCH 28, 1996 POLICY ON RACIAL/ETHNIC/RELIGIOUS/GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION HARASSMENT-ABUSE The District, and the public, expects employees/officials, agents, representatives (contractors, consultants, vendors) and students to respect the rights and dignity of all persons in matters of personnel consideration, enrollment, academic instruction/evaluation and administration of District policies and procedures. Accordingly, the District expressly prohibits racial/ethnic/religious/gender, sexual orientation harassment-abuse of its students, employees, and those who seek to join the campus community in any capacity or those who interface with the District (i.e., citizens, parents, vendors). Racial/ethnic/religious/gender, sexual orientation harassment-abuse includes, but is not limited to: Verbal, written, physical, psychological (both climate and contact) and any other demonstrative actions with regard to race, creed, ethnic origin or religious preference or gender, sexual orientation that is abusive and/or harassing. All individuals shall be afforded the full rights and privileges that are inherent in attending, working, studying or visiting on the campuses of the Dallas Public Schools. Persons subjected to racial/ethnic/religious/gender, sexual orientation harassment-abuse should notify the campus administrator at the school level, or the department head. The campus administrator or department head will then contact the Employee Relations Department in consultation with the Intercultural Relations Department. Should the complaint be against an Assistant Superintendent or Administrator of the District, the complaint will be file with the next level of authority. The Employee Relations Department in consultation with the Intercultural Relations Department shall investigate all allegations of racial/ethnic/religious/gender, sexual orientation harassment-abuse, and shall recommend action as deemed appropriate pursuant to District policy. Filing allegations of racial/ethnic/religious/gender, sexual orientation harassment-abuse without substantive cause is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including a recommendation for termination.
