With overwhelming support from the gay and lesbian community, Cheer Dallas' 70 member squad has continued its efforts to promote spirit and unity within the community. Through our "Cheer For The Cure" program, efforts are being focused on raising awareness and funds in the fight against AIDS and other incurable diseases. During Cheer Dallas' phenomenal inaugural year, performances have included high-profile events such as Gay Games IV Opening & Closing Ceremonies, as well as the Stonewall 25th Anniversary March and Rally, both held in New York City. Dallas performances have included the 1993 & 1994 Alan Ross Gay Pride Parade, Life Walk - 1993 & 1994, Susan G. Koeman Cancer Foundation Annual Fund-raiser, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Walk-A-Thon, National Gay & Lesbian Regional Expo in 1994, and two regional conferences - National Gay & Lesbian "Creating Change Conference" and "Texas First" HIV Services Conference. We were honored with the invitation by The Turtle Creek Chorale to perform with them at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Hall, June 5 & 8, 1994. Additional performances have included the National Gay & Lesbian Expo, New York City, April 29-30, 1995, Fort Worth Gay Pride Week Parade, where Cheer Dallas won Grand Prize, and the Houston Gay & Lesbian Pride Parade & Festival, where the parade's them "Silence To Celebration" award was given to Cheer Dallas. During Cheer Dallas' first two years we have been received well by the press. Our group was featured as part of OUT Magazine Gay Games IV Special Edition. Here at home and statewide, Cheer Dallas has been seen numerous times in The Dallas Voice and This Week In Texas. Aside from the press Cheer Dallas will make its film debut on August 10, 1995. The world premier of the movie Jeffrey will be held which highlights Cheer Dallas performing. History was made when Cheer Dallas was invited to compete at the National Cheerleaders Association - All Star Competition, February 1995 in Dallas, Texas. This was the first time that NCA had recognized gays and lesbians which was a milestone that such an honor was given. In the competition, which had over 3,000 participants from all over the United States, Cheer Dallas placed second in the Open Division. Planned activities include the 1995 Alan Ross Gay Pride Parade,Life Walk 1995, National Coming Out Day, National Gay & Lesbian Regional Expo in Long Beach, California, World AIDS Day 1995 in which CNN News will cover the international event being held in Dallas, Texas, Miss Texas Pageant 1996 and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 1996. With these two incredible years under our belt, Cheer Dallas will continue to dedicate efforts to our "Cheer For The Cure" program by raising funds and donations for AIDS research, education, other incurable diseases, and other non-profit 501 (c) 3 organizations. This will be done by performing at and producing events to raise money. Cheer Dallas' annual New Years Eve Party is a fantastic celebration, along with our annual Tank Party and other events. Portions of the proceeds go toward benefiting local, state, and national beneficiaries.
