This murder follows by a month the killing of trans-woman Lauryn Paige in Austin. Details are sketchy, but according to Houston police investigator Todd Miller, "The victim appeared to be wearing female clothing and had shoulder-length auburn hair. The Houston Chronicle reports that Garcia was wearing black pants and shirt, women's jewelry and makeup. Said Miller, "Because of the way he was dressed, there is a possibility it may be a gay-bashing, but we don't know that yet for sure." ### Contact: Dana Priesing, dana@gpac.org GENDERPAC ANNOUNCES FOURTH NATIONAL LOBBY DAY ============================================= [Washington, D.C.: 17 Feb 98] GENDERPAC WILL HOLD ITS fourth National Lobbying Days in Washington, D.C. from Sunday, 23 May 99, through Tuesday, 25 May 99. Said GenderPAC Director of Operations Carrie Davis, "1998 saw tremendous advances on the state and local levels and quiet but important change in the national arena. GenderPAC has continued its series of meetings with the U.S. Department of Justice about issues of gender variance and federal law, placed stories in the mainstream media (including Time Magazine, the A&E Cable Channel, and the NY Times) and continued its ongoing dialogue with national lesbian and gay organizations. "At Lobby Day this year we will be presenting the results of the recent GenderPAC/NGLTF/NCLR survey of employment discrimination. We need your help to show Congressional representatives the survey results, and explain the impact of gender bias in the workplace." Said GenderPAC's Washington Advocate Dana Priesing, "When we walk the halls of Congress, believe me, we are noticed. With time, our presence and our words will wear away the stereotypes many legislators still hold about gender-different people." ### Subscriptions.
