Update,  December 16

Brenda & Wanda taped Oprah today, to be aired (I believe) next Tuesday.
According to a Chicago lesbian activist who was in the audience, lots of
supporters filled the audience, but the show got really rowdy and nasty at
times. I haven't spoken with Brenda or Wanda today, so I'm not sure how they
feel the show went. I hope the fundies were the ones shouting, but we'll see.

Federal intervention: at a press briefing today, Reno responded to a
reporter's question about the issue by saying that the DOJ is reviewing the
situation. (Last Thursday she said she didn't know about it). Letters from
individuals and organizations to Reno are still needed. Letters can be mailed
and/or faxed to the following:

After expressing concern about the situation, ask her to do the following, as
requested by NGLTF in a Dec. 7 letter to her:
direct the Community Relations Service to mediate the community tensions;
direct the FBI to monitor hate crimes; direct the Civil Rights Division to
investigate attempts to violate the civil rights of the Hensons; send a
representative of DOJ to the January 4 community meeting; meet with NGLTF to
discuss the situation and insure the Hensons' safety.
