             IT'S TIME AGAIN MINNESOTA ACTION ALERT

Here's what's happened:

On February 17, the Minnesota Family Council (MFC) sent a letter to Gov.
Carlson and all Minnesota State Legislators making _false and inflammatory
accusations_ regarding HIV prevention efforts by the Minnesota Dept. of
Education. They accused the Dept. of Education of circulating "inappropriate"
materials to Minnesota educators during the Minnesota School Health Education
Conference in early February. In fact, there is no proof that a brochure on
safer sex between men was part of any of the resource displays that were set
up during the Conference. The MFC also alleges that the Dept. of Education
has lied about the distribution of the "Alone No More" resource guide.
   These accusations are not true. The safer sex materials in question
were not connected to the Dept. of Education, and the circulation of
"Alone No More" is not originating from the Dept. (Ten copies of the
booklet were available, brought in by a workshop presenter and displayed
only in that elective workshop.)
Here's what you can do:
Write a letter to your legislator suporting the MN Dept. of Education's
HIV prevention efforts and their efforts to support gay,lesbian and
bisexual youth in Minnesota. Also, write Gov. Carlson and thank him for
his continued support of this important work of the MN Dept. of
Education.
