The Gay Directory of Authoritative Resources, or GayDAR, lists experts on family, discrimination, workplace, anti-gay violence, youth, health, political, cultural, and other issues. "Myths and stereotypes about gay people prevent meaningful public discussion about issues related to sexual orientation," notes IGLSS executive director M. V. Lee Badgett. "Good policy decisions require sound information. GayDAR identifies the researchers who can provide credible information about the lives and needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people." GayDAR is the first directory to connect researchers on GLBT topics with policymakers, journalists, and advocates. For easy reference purposes, researchers are listed by subject matter and by geographic location as well as alphabetically. Decision-makers can find experts on particular topics or those in their own local area. GayDAR will also allow researchers to locate other scholars working on similar topics. IGLSS has several projects designed to promote interactions among researchers and to stimulate new research. The directory is available in print by calling 413-577-0145 and online at www.iglss.org. Updates to the directory will be posted online frequently and will be printed annually. The Institute for Gay and Lesbian Strategic Studies is an independent, nonprofit think tank. The IGLSS mission is to use scholarly research, analysis, and education to inform policy debates on issues related to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. The Institute conducts research and analysis on policy-related topics such as marriage and employment discrimination and on questions of strategic value to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities. -030- Lee Badgett Dept. of Economics Univ. of Massachusetts Amherst, MA 01003 413-545-0159 (voice) 413-545-2921 (fax)
