MURDER IN BALTIMORE

[Baltimore, MD: 25 Nov 99] TACY RANTA, A NOTED
transgender activist, was shot dead in Baltimore
early Tuesday morning (22 Nov 99) while walking
home from a local restaurant. She was co-founder
of Tran*Quility, a Baltimore transgender support
group, active in MCC-Baltimore, and a spokes-
person for It's Time, Maryland!

	She was shot once in the chest. Several 
young-adult suspects are in police custody after 
a crime spree that included car-jackings, armed 
robbery, and physical assault. It appears that 
robbery may have been the motive in the assault 
on Ms. Ranta. Further details are not yet 
available.
