These internships cover a variety of specializations. Experience in one of these fields is very helpful but not necessary: Legislative research Electoral research Public relations Fundraising Print advertising design and sales Database design Video design and production Video design and production Volunteer and leadership training Chapter organization development Conference logistics and management Development of a resource library Most internships will run from approximately 1 June through 15 August 1997. Interns should expect to work between 10 and 15 hours a week during this period. Most work sites will be in the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis triangle, although field organizing interns may travel occasionally to the Eastern Shore, western and/or southern Maryland. Each student intern will work with a mentor, who will train, supervise, and advise the intern(s) assigned to him or her. The mentor will be FSJC's lobbyist or field coordinator, or a member of the FSJC Board of Directors, or an FSJC committee member. Course credit for the internship will depend on the policies of the particular institution the student is attending. The status of a particular internship as credit or non-credit will be determined before any particular internship is offered. The mentor will provide an evaluation of the intern's work in accord with the institution's standards and procedures. This is an unpaid internship; room, board, living expenses, and transportation to and from the regular workplace are the intern's sole responsibility. Certain expenses for travel, supplies, postage and long-distance telephone calls on FSJC business are reimbursable in accord with standard FSJC policy. Applications are invited without regard to sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, race, ethnicity or nationality, class or socioeconomic status, age, religious affiliation or secular status, disability, or veteran status. Persons belonging to underrepresented or marginalized groups are especially encouraged to apply. Accommodations for successful applicants with disabilities will be made in accord with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, enrolled at least half-time in an accredited institution of higher learning or have graduated from the same within the preceding 12 months, and have a strong commitment to equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.
