Attention!
SB 980 -- the Hate Crimes Bill -- will be reviewed by the Senate Judiciary C
Committee tomorrow (2 May) after they convene at 9:30 AM.

The Hate Crimes Bill would provide for stiffer penalties to be levied against
individuals convicted of committing a Hate Crime. A Hate Crime is defined as
an offense committed against the victim based upon his or her race gender,
age, color, religion, ancestry, natioal origin, disability, creed or sexual
orientation.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP PASS THIS BILL

If your senator is on the Senate Judiciary C Committee contact him or her and
ask them to vote for Senate Bill 980. Tell your senator that this same bill
passed out of this same committee last year and was approved unanimously on
the Senate floor. About 35 states have already passed Hate Crimes bills and
it is about time that we afford the same protection to the citizens of
Louisiana.
