Attention!
Senate Bill 1231 -- the Minimun Sentencing for Sex-Related Crimes bill --
will be up for a vote on the Senate floor today sometime after 4 PM. This
bill, among other things, makes "crimes against nature" (which includes
sodomy) punishable by at least one year in prison. Presently there is a maximu
m sentence (5 years) but no minimum.

LEGAL is presently discussing the SB1231, and a potential amendment to delete
this portion of the bill, with several senators.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

Contact your senator. Tell him or her that you are not in favor of a
mandatory minimum for sodomy -- which is included in "crimes against nature,"
and that you would be in favor of an amendment to delete this portion of SB
1231.
