STATUS OF PROTECT OUR CONSTITUTION (POC): The POC Board of Directors and Executive Committee members voted to continue POC in name only for now as a result of limited resources and the immediacy of a legislative session (the POC name will be registered with the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs). Board members will remain intact for organizational purposes and network (coalition) members and friends are urged to stay involved. The remaining funds from the ballot campaign have been donated to the local ACLU whose mission is most similar to that of POC. A portion of the funds have also been designated to Equality Hawai'i. The ACLU will act as a clearinghouse for the network on issues of mutual concern that may arise this legislative session (e.g. same gender marriage and domestic partnership, workers' rights, Native Hawaiian rights, reproductive freedom) and will coordinate advocacy (i.e., keep the community informed, suggest action strategies that network members can participate in). Network (coalition) organizations (i.e., League of Women Voters, Japanese American Citizens League, etc.) will lobby on these issues as individual groups to allow for the expansion and flexibility of community participation. The donated funds will support a full time position (Amy Sawyer) during the legislative session to lead communication and lobbying efforts among network members primarily through email updates and action alerts. STAY UP TO DATE: Should you choose to remain on this network, you will receive regular updates. For more information, check the local ACLU website at http://www.acluhawaii.org. Unless a reply from you states otherwise by February 26, we will assume you want to stay on the email/mailing list*. (This will help the ACLU hold down administrative costs). *FYI, the ACLU has a confidentiality policy that does not allow for the sharing of mailing lists with other organizations.
