Was just alerted to the outcome of the vote in the Hawai`i Senate regarding HB 118, the so-called "Reciprocal Beneficiaries" bill, which grants limited rights to couples who can not otherwise legally marry. The vote was 22 to 3, with many of the "pro" votes registered with reservations. The caller only identified two of the three nay votes, Sam Slom and Marshall Ige. It is known that some of the major players who had opposed us in the past voted for the bill, including Robert Bunda, Randal Iwase and Norman Sakamoto. The House has scheduled their vote for both HB 117 (Constitutional Amendment) & 118 on the last day of the session, April 29th. The date for the Senate vote on HB 117 has not been announced.
