ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO ASK THEIR FRIENDS TO CALL IT, ETC............................ Professional media sources have revealed to h.e.r.m.p that the opponents to same-gender marriage will escalate the debate in Hawaii with a July TV ad campaign. The July ad campaign will be three times greater than h.e.r.m.p's total income in 1995. h.e.r.m.p, by its lack of resources and its tax-deductible status, will provide no response except for some letters to the editor in the newspapers and press releases. The Freedom to Marry now depends totally on the success of Friends of h.e.r.m.p and its 900-number, 1-900-97-MARRY. To succeed, Friends of h.e.r.m.p must reach 100,000 contributors. Our message is simple and easily understood by the average person: taking responsibility for one another, love, commitment and caring. The true family values! We will win, if the message is repeated many times a day on major radio and TV stations. We have the message---do we have the collective will to make that message a reality? To say the least, the goal of 100,000 contributors is daring. No national gay or lesbian rights groups has ever gambled so much on the trust and support of the "grass-roots" (some of the largest mailing lists are around 60,000). Theoretically, the 900-number could be a rousing success. IF 6 people persuade 6 people who each persuade 6 more people, who in turn each reach 6 more people, .... As the contacts spread out, 7 contacts deep (6 each time) reaches nearly 340,000 people. 8 contacts deep reaches 2,000,000 people---which may be 27% of the gays and lesbians in the United States. Bold indeed! 100,000 flyers describing the Freedom to Marry and the 900-number will be distributed at gay and lesbian celebrations throughout the month of June. Please do your part. ACT NOW!
