Date: Thu, 8 Oct 1998 11:07:49 -1000 From: Mia H H Lam Subject: Fwd: A Special Evening of Aloha!!! (fwd) PLEASE COME TO AN EVENING OF ALOHA TO PROTECT HAWAII'S CONSTITUTION AGAINST ANTI-GAY ATTACKS Dear Friend, We are a group of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans who are appalled by the anti-gay campaign directed at the people of Hawaii. Many of us are kama'ainas from Hawaii and some of us are queer-but we are all very concerned about the upcoming vote in Hawaii to change the state constitution's broad-based equal rights provisions by specifically banning same-sex marriages. We need your help to make a difference in the upcoming vote to constrict Hawaii's state constitution. Anti-Constitution, anti-gay ads have been flooding Hawaii daily as part of a well-financed conservative campaign to denounce gays and lesbians. Please join us in our efforts to raise funds to help our friends and families in Hawaii to fight the anti-gay constitutional amendment! The state-wide vote happens on November 3rd and money is desperately needed for the media campaign led by the coalition of local Hawaii residents who are saying NO to the constitutional amendment and NO to homophobia. Here is the script for the thirty-second radio spot now running statewide by the Protect Our Constitution/Human Rights Campaign "FAMILY" Radio :30 (Announcer) Lately, we've been hearing a lot about saving traditional marriage. But most people aren't even sure what traditional marriage needs to be saved FROM. If you want to save something, save our Bill of Rights. Because if the proposed constitutional amendment is passed, for the first time in our history, we'll be depriving citizens of a right they already possess. Our constitution is too precious to play with. Protect it. Vote No on November Third.
