  FLORIDA'S LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS GUESTS AT BUSH RALLY

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, On Monday, June 22nd, governortorial
candidate Jeb Bush of Florida addressed an over-flow crowd of 600
supporters and guests at a reception sponsored by the Republican
Clubs of Broward County at the Holiday Inn West.

Unique to this event was an invitation extended to the leadership
of the Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida by the Executive
Committee of the County's Republican Party. Log Cabin Republican
Club members from Miami/Dade, Broward, West Palm Beach and
Brevard had an opportunity to meet briefly with Jeb Bush and
other elected officials in an air of excitement and enthusiasm.
Jamie Smathers, President of Log Cabin Tampa, although unable to
attend the event as Broward's guest, sent a message of
appreciation to Bush for the extended offer of equitable
participation.

Bush reported to LCR leaders Jack Majeske and Andy Eddy that "In
my own business and campaign office, sexual orientation has not
been a criterion or basis for employment. In the past my business
and campaign have hired gays and lesbians based on their work
qualifications." He further noted that "I don't place sexual
orientation in the same classification as race or disability" and
for this reason "I do not favor extending special rights to
Florida's non-heterosexuals." Bush indicated that "I have no
intention of using issues relating to sexual orientation as a
campaign issue - pro or con.... My message is for every citizen
of our state regardless of differences in background, perspective
and outlook."

The Log Cabin delegation was seated in the first row, facing the
dais, in full view of Jeb and a number of dignitaries including
Mayor Naugle of Ft. Lauderdale, Senator Jim Scott, Representative
Debbie Sanderson, Chair Ed Pozzuoli, etc.

Jack Majeske, President of Broward Log Cabin Republicans noted
"We believe that this was a serious effort to move the "Party of
Lincoln" back into the equitable "Big Tent" theory of inclusion
and for that reason we anticipate the long awaited official
chartering of our club by Republicans who judge us on our ability
and our willingness to serve as demonstrated here today by the
actions of this very diverse family."
