Some news has accumulated, mostly good, which I've finally remembered to present to you all: 1. A judge in Manatee County has declared the state's anti-LGB adoption law unconstitutional. The same law was declared unconstitutional in Monroe County last year. The law remains in effect in Florida's other 65 counties until the Supreme Court gets a chance to review the law. 2. Miami Beach has granted $43,200 of federal money to the Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Community Center of S. Florida, without discussion or dissent. The Community Center has raised close to $100,000 in the last two months, and a site will hopefully be chosen soon on Lincoln Road. 3. Chris Wilson was elected to the city commission of Wilton Manors earlier this month. Two of the five members of the commission are now openly gay. 4. Conservatives in the Florida legislature have scuttled a gay-rights referendum some in the deeply divided LGB community in Broward County wanted. Activists will attempt to get legislation passed via the very supportive county commission instead. Sim Aberson Ft.
