Date: Tue, 18 Oct 1994 08:22:57 -0400 (EDT) Submitted by: CENDO RICHARD ***PRESS RELEASE**** DENVER, CO, October 17, 1994 -- GLAIL president Rick Cendo today faxed the letter that follows to Al Knight of the Denver Post. GLAIL urges everyone to call Chuck Green of the Denver Post at 303-820-1331 or fax at 303-820-1369. Richard Cendo PO Box 7327 Boulder, CO 80306 October 17, 1994 Al Knight Perspective Editor The Denver Post 303-820-1369 Dear Al: This letter is a follow-up to a voice-mail message I left for you earlier today, which you have not returned. As I said in my voice message, you said in your Sunday, October 16, 1994, article that Federal Judge Arthur Spiegel's findings of fact in a recent court decision were not facts at all. While Judge Spiegel said that it is factually correct to say that there is no correlation between homosexuality and pedophilia and that gays are often a target of violence on account of our sexual orientation, you said Judge Spiegel is wrong. In fact, you characterized Spiegel as "around the bend, off the deep-end, into the marshes." What evidence, rather than name calling, did you provide to challenge Spiegel's findings? Well, first you said that anyone's mere "causal examination" of Spiegel's findings would show that he is wrong. Then you said his findings are not facts because "you can get a good fistfight going among academics over each and everyone of them." I'll presume that you did not mean a literal fistfight but rather meant that at least some academics are so convinced that gays are prone to pedophilia and are so convinced that gays are not a target of violence that they get extremely upset by any claim to the contrary. Normally, Al, I would take your word that such academics exist. But as you know, you have a well documented history of using lies, duplicity, and violations of Post editorial policy in your private crusade to paint gays as, among other things, pedophiles and as immune to violence or discrimination. Therefore, Al, I think it is extremely important to the Denver Post's journalistic reputation that you produce the names, credentials, and scientific studies of these academics that you anonymously cite. I and many other Post readers, as well as thousands of people around the nation aware of your record via the Internet, will be eagerly awaiting your documentation. Sincerely, Richard Cendo cc: Chuck Green Denver Post Editorial Page Editor Neil Westergaard Denver Post Executive Editor The Honorable Arthur Spiegel United States District Court
