In the seminal conservative work "The Dream and the Nightmare," Myron Magnet writes: "[In the 60's] Mainstream culture began to be intoxicated with its own sexual liberation -- premarital, extramarital, you name it. If marriages broke up, as increasingly they did, that was OK, because individual personal fulfillment was more important than family stability." "We could hardly turn to the poor and say, 'OK fellas, all this is fine for us, but not for you. You have to cleave to the straight and narrow. So we destigmatized for everybody much sexual behavior that formerly had been in check by strong social disapproval. In the case of the poor, we destigmatized getting pregnant out of wedlock, for 15-year-olds, even for 13-year-olds." "A Benson governorship would clearly destigmatize divorce further," said Rick Cendo, GLAIL spokesperson. "And that would clearly accelerate the deterioration of whatever is left of a social structure in the underclass." Cendo pointed out, however, that the destigmatization of divorce is only part of the harm that Benson would do to Colorado families and the underclass. "We need a governor who is able to point out the real culprit in this social deterioration: adulterers, divorcers, irresponsible and philandering men. But Benson can't point out those problems with any effectiveness or moral authority because HE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM. He'd only look like even more of a hypocrite. "So we'll just end up getting more of what we've already seen: Benson blaming poor, struggling kids for problems that were really created and nurtured by self-indulgent, smug, silver-spoon scumballs like Benson himself," Cendo said.
