JAMES DOBSON, 7/14/94 WHEN: Friday, July 15, 1994, Noon WHERE: All Soul's Unitarian Church, corner, Dale at N. Tejon, Colorado Springs, Colorado WHO: The Rev. Dr. Mel White, dean, the Cathedral of Hope, Dallas, Texas, author of "Stranger at the Gate: To be Gay and Christian in America", among numerous other books and articles and a widely acclaimed film producer. WHY: Dr. James Dobson has declared war on Dr. Mel White and his Fast for Understanding. White has come to Colorado Springs to bring attention to the anti-gay propagenda disseminated by Dobson and Focus on the Family, arguably one of the largest radical right organizations in the world. In the last two days, Focus on the Family and Dobson have attacked Dr. White's integrity, motives and his information against Focus. In a "personal letter" hand delivered to White and simultaneously released to the national media, Dobson accused White of being a hypocrite, a propagandist and a demagogue. White is ready to support his claims with documentation against Focus on the Family. Although White does not question Dobson's sincerity, Mel White stands by his charges that the anti-gay rhetoric produced by Dobson and Focus on the Family leads directly to discrimination, intolerance, violence and death.
