GAY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FORMED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT BOULDER

The Board of Directors of the CU-Boulder Alumni Association chartered the
first CU lesbian, bisexual and gay alumni association at its September 17
meeting.

Formed by Boulder area alumni of the main campus of the University of
Colorado, the Lesbian, Bisexual and Gay Alumni Association is intended,
according to its mission statement, to "promote the ideals of the University
of Colorado at Boulder" through an extensive list of activities.

These activities include providing information, services, financial support
and programs that foster the camaraderie of lesbian, bisexual and gay alumni,
faculty, staff and students; encouraging understanding of lesbian and gay
issues; improving the educational and campus climate; and furthering the
overall diversity of CU-Boulder.

"For a variety of reasons, many lesbian, bisexual and gay alumni feel
alienated from the University," said LBGAA interim steering committee member
John Wilkens.  "Our goal is to remedy this situation by creating a resource
for CU's lesbian, bisexual and gay alumni and friends who wish to maintain
university ties, advance the principles of our Alma Mater, and provide support
to the LBG community at CU-Boulder."

The new association will have its first general meeting on October 11 (Coming
Out Day) at 5:30 p.m. in Hellums 245 on the CU-Boulder campus.  In October the
LBGAA will issue its first newsletter, initiate a membership drive, and
co-sponsor several activities during Coming Out Week, October 10-14, according
to Wilkens.
