Dear Colleague,

We would like to ask your assistance in notifying your members that the
University of Southern California has recognized Lambda Alumni
Association as a support group with special interest in Gay, Lesbian
and Bisexual alumni.  Attached is a brief press release that may be
suitable for your newsletter or for an announcement at your next
general meeting.

The purpose of Lambda Alumni Association is to provide financial
support for scholarships and to link Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual
students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends in an enriching and
supportive community that promotes educational, research, and career
interests.  Participation is welcomed by anyone who supports and affirms
the values of an inclusive community.  Numerous social activities are
anticipated which will be designed to help meet these goals.

Three types of scholarships have already been discussed with the
University.  Any student who makes a significant contribution to the
Gay, Lesbian, or Bisexual communities at USC is eligible to apply for
award consideration.  One scholarship makes a cash award to students
based on leadership in the Gay, Lesbian, or Bisexual communities.  A
research scholarship may be awarded to cover material costs of theses
and dissertations that have impact on the Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual
communities.  A third proposal is to establish an emergency fund to
support students through a partial semester when parental support is
denied because of sexual orientation.

Please notify interested persons that if they would like to receive an
invitation to the inaugural reception on May 1, they should call or
write.  We appreciate your help in disseminating this information.
