   We have just won another round in our fight to pass the 
Domestic Partners Registration bill (AB 2810)! Thanks 
again to your letters and letters from supporters across 
the state, AB 2810 was approved on Tuesday by the Senate 
Judiciary Committee with just one vote to spare (7 to 
3).
   As you know, this bill allows committed, but unmarried, 
couples to visit each other in the hospital and serve as 
each other's conservator and eases the process of 
willing property. AB 2810 guarantees all families in 
California the basic human right to care for each other 
in emergencies and serious illness.
   The close vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee 
concerns me greatly and serves as a warning that the 
vote of the full Senate will be one of the toughest 
battles of all. We are going to have to step up our 
efforts to be successful. The full Senate will vote on 
the bill before Friday, July 8.
   I need your help. Please write a letter of support to 
the Senators who have not yet indicated their support 
for the bill. For your convenience I have enclosed a 
list of these Senators. Please also have friends, 
family, community groups and others write letters as 
well.
   Together we have come a long way with this important 
bill, but it will mean nothing if the bill is not 
passed. Let's make sure all of our hard work is not 
wasted.
