Last Tuesday we fought and won a great victory. Due largely
to your calls and letters, the Domestic Partners
Registration
Bill (AB 2810) passed the State Assembly with only one vote
to spare(42-30).
As you know, this bill allows unmarried couples living
together in committed relationships to
visit each other in the hospital and serve as each other's
conservator and eases the process of willing property.
It is outrageous that, under the existing laws, these
couples
may be denied the right to take care of and protect each
other in emergencies and health crisis situations.  AB 2810
guarantees all families
these basic human rights, regardless of their marital
status.
Again, I want to thank you for your support of this
important
legislation. The bill now moves
to the Senate where the Senate Judiciary Committee will
consider the bill on Tuesday, June 21.
Please send a letter of support to the members of this
committee as soon as possible. For your
convenience I've enclosed a list of these legislators.
This big victory in the Assembly will be meaningless if the
Domestic Partners Registration bill does not become law.
