Date: Thu, 02 Mar 2000 23:09:17 -0500 From: Interfaith Working Group Subject: IWG SF Chronicle Marriage Letter March 2, 2000 San Francisco Chronicle 901 Mission St. San Francisco, CA 94103 Dear Editors: In his March 1 commentary on marriage, George Wesolek failed to note that there are people of faith who believe that marriage between a man and a woman is far more than a legal contract, and who also believe that marriage between two people of the same gender is far more than a legal contract. However, that is a matter between the couple and their religious organization(s). Civil marriage is a legal contract recognized by the state dependent on the collective genders of the couple. That is not equal protection under the law, and it is wrong.
