Subject: IWG George Will letter Date: Thu, 23 May 1996 23:28:13 -0400 (EDT) From: Chris Purdom The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 2 congregations, 4 religious organizations and 24 clergy from 10 faiths and denominations. If you are in the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in other areas. Visit the web page at http://www.libertynet.org/~iwg/ or http://www.qrd.org/qrd/www/religion/orgs/iwg/ Copies went to both the Philadelphia Daily News and Washington Post May 22, 1996 The Washington Post 1150 15th Street NW Washington, DC 20071 Dear Editors: George Will's ranting column about the U.S. Supreme Court thwarting the Religious Right's attempts to return Colorado the good old days of 1930's Germany was just one offensive statement after another. The worst was his comment that anti-discrimination laws "cumulatively constitute endorsement of the idea that homosexuality is a matter of moral indifference." People of faith are never morally indifferent. Moral indifference is what allows people to abuse each other spiritually, physically, and legally. We believe that same-sex relationships are morally equal. Sincerely, Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
