Excerpt from the text of the February 1994 memorandum from the First
Presidency of the LDS
(Mormon) Church which was read over Mormon pulpits worldwide on February 13,
1994:

"We encourage members to appeal to legislators, judges and government
officials to preserve
the purpose and sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman and to reject
all efforts to
give legal authorization or other official approval or support to marriages
between persons of the
same gender."
