Christmas Eve, December 24, 1993, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  Vice Mayor Cary
Keno presented the Rev. Grant Ford, Pastor of the Sunshine
Cathedral-Metropolitan Community Church, a City Proclamation which honored
the congregation and its leadership for its year of dedication and service to
the families, friends, and loved ones of the gay and lesbian community.

The Keys of the City were extended to the congregation at its Third Annual
Christmas Service held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.  Two
thousand worshipers attended the religious service which has grown to a point
where it can no longer be facilitated at its southeast Ft. lauderdale church.
 The congregation is aggressively raising funds which will be utilized to
develop a comprehensive service center that will more fully meet the
spiritual, social and life-serving needs of the congregation and community.

The historic event afforded the MCC a passport to greater cooperation and
harmony in a city that has not always been sensitive to the diverse needs of
gay women and men in Broward County.
