Paulton, Executive Director. They are affiliated with Focus on the Family. We do not have a copy of the book in question or know anything about it. It is obviously a way to encourage more lies about gays and lesbians. They also state in their newsletter that "they rely solely on the support of concerned South Dakotans." We have no way of checking that information or know whether we should or not. Barry Wick, F.A.C.E.S. of South Dakota, Inc." - - - - - "November 1995 "Are you concerned about homosexuality in the classroom? " When the National Education Association declared October Gay & Lesbian History Month, they openly revealed what has largely been happening behind the scenes. Many other organizations, including the South Daktoa Education Association (see the Sept. South Dakota Citizen), have been working to foster pro-homosexual attitudes in the classroom. Parents and family groups have rightly been outraged. "Now, hoever, there is hope for dealing homosexuality truthfully---and lovingly---as presented in the new children's book, Alfie's Home. This is the story of a boy who struggles with homosexuality and then transitions into heteosexuality after finding help and experiencing his parents' love. "International Healing Foundation, Inc. is looking for concerned citizens who want to offer our children hope and who want to set the record straight. "TAKE ACTION: Contact IHF for your free copies of Alfie's Home to donate to your local public libraries and public schools. P.O. Box 901, Bowie, MD 20718-0901. Tom Tancredo of Independence Inst. says, "people who are in school should be the people who want to be in school and when you have that kind of an arrangement, you find education occurring in that environment." Tom McMillan of the Rocky Mountain Family Council sees many benefits: "This would do away with all the wrangling over opt-out programs. it would do away with all the wrangling about courses that parents object to that are currently required for graduation. I think it would solve a lot of problems." Scott Somerville of Home School Legal Defense Fund says mandatory attendance laws just cause more headaches for those who want safe schools. Somerville: "Truant officers have said in effect, we have given up on enforcing just simple truancy. What we're enforcing these days is truancy plus mugging, truancy plus vandalism, truancy plus criminal activity." He says his organization has already drafted a voluntary attendance bill which states can adopt which will solve a lot of problems in public schools. Somerville: "If it comes down to a choice between safe schools and compulsory attendance, we have to go with safe schools." Debate in Colorado is expected to begin in January -- ****keep your eye open for similar legislation in your state!**** ========== *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ YOU MAY RE-POST.
