"Family" take on Roe v Wade demonstrations The lead article this week is the Christian Right view of last weekend's demonstrations marking the 23rd Anniversary of Roe v Wade. "The Key Point" is that "Pro-life gains must be reinforced with ongoing pressure" and the action item is to get involved in a pro-life group and to pray that Rowe v Wade will be overturned. The article says that 60,000 pro-lifers rallied, and doesn't mention the number of pro-choice people who marched. The article cites a report by the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL) that more than 200 bills were introduced in states and Congress to limit abortions. B. Family Tax Credit in Budget Negotiations The "Key Point" is that a family tax cut which would stimulate the U.S. economy is at risk. Lots of rhetoric, which I don't have time to summarize. (sorry I'm in a rush today). This week's "zinger" is a quote from Edwin Faulner of the Heritage Foudation who says "To trade away any portion of the tax-cut package simply to cut a deal with the White House would deny families and the economy all the benefitrs of tax cuts in exchange for a budget that won't balance any faster." C. Trash TV FIA is happy that Phil Donohue host of the "offensive" Donahue Show called it quits. Also happy with the cancellations of "Carnie" C"harles Perez" "Danny!" and "Gabrielle" and that Geraldo says he will focus on news/issues. The action request is to keep the pressure on talk shows and to get information from the American Family Association which lists sponsors. D. News Briefs 1. FIA will have a special issue on the State of the Union - We are supposed to keep our fax machines on tomorrow night because FIA will have a special alert. (Okay, I'll do that.) 2. AFA doing a special mailing re Disney Boycott The American Family Association will explain its expanded Disney boycott in a february mass mailing to its members. I'm not on the AFA mailing list. If anyone is, please contact me. Maggie@critpath.org. 3. A Hillary investigation you never heard of before- Maro Tucker of the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) and the relationship with Hillary is "under investigation in New York." Doesn't say who's doing the investigating. My guess is the Family Research Council, but this is pure speculation. Anyway the crime here is that the NCEE has published a document called "A Human Resources Development Plan for the United States." Call 716.546.7620 for details. According to FIA this document is designed to "centralize our education system." E.
