Boxer joins "No on Knight" For Immediate Release For further information: September 9, 1999 Contact: Tracey Conaty (415) 227-1020 Senator Boxer Joins March 2000 Knight Initiative Opponents Campaign Hails Senator's Leadership Against Divisive Initiative San Francisco, CA: The No on Knight Campaign today welcomed Senator Barbara Boxer's (D-CA) strong statement in opposition to California's March 2000 Knight Initiative: "Today I pledge my voice to defeating the Knight Initiative in March 2000, and I strongly encourage others to do the same. California has lived through hurtful and divisive initiatives, and this one continues that intolerant tradition. There is no need for this initiative which is an attack on those who seek such things as inheritance rights, hospital visits and health insurance based on a committed relationship. Let us usher in the 21st century with tolerance, not division and fear of our fellow Californians." said Senator Boxer. "We're thrilled that Senator Boxer has taken such a strong, early and public position against the Knight Initiative," said Mike Marshall, campaign manager for No on Knight, the campaign to defeat the Knight Initiative. "Her leadership will encourage other opinion leaders to join her, Republican Congressman Tom Campbell (R-15) and leaders in business, organized labor and local government in opposing the Knight Initiative." ### _________________________________________ This message was issued by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Communications Department.
