DESCRIPTION: The Field Organizer will work as part of a dynamic field team in the Washington, DC office on issues of importance to the GLBT community including, but not limited to, youth, campus, and other core issues. Under the supervision of the Deputy Political Director, the Field Organizer will coordinate organizing efforts on key community issues and respond to requests for assistance from local and state organizations. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Develop contacts and maintain relationships with organizers, constituencies and organizations working on GLBT issues. * Respond to requests from activists; provide technical assistance, referrals, as necessary. * Coordinate and lead NGLTF¹s organizing efforts on youth, campus, and other key issues, working closely with organizers, mobilizing activists on key issues. * Develop written materials (talking points, action kits, organizing guidelines, action alerts, press releases) on specific program issues. * Work closely with other staff on issues related to public policy, the policy institute, media, development and other work areas as they affect the field department. * Coordinate organizing projects as needed, including trainings, rallies and events. * Travel to hot spots, conferences, trainings, and events throughout the country. * Represent NGLTF at grassroots events as a speaker or trainer. * Perform other duties as assigned by Political Director or Deputy Political Director. QUALIFICATIONS: * Minimum three years organizing experience at the local, state, or national level, especially on youth anc campus issues. * Knowledge of and commitment to working in a non-profit organization setting. * Knowledge of and experience working in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. * Excellent oral and writing skills. * Public speaking skills. * Highly organized and responsible self-starter. * Ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment. * Computer and Internet literacy. * Demonstrated experience working in a multi-cultural environment where commitment to diversity based on race, ethnic origin, gender, age, sexual orientation and physical ability is an important institutional value.
