Jason Riggs Policy Institute Associate National Gay and Lesbian Task Force ***************************************************************** JOB POSTING RESEARCH AND POLICY DIRECTOR The Policy Institute of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force **************************************************************** JOB TITLE: Research and Policy Director (job is based in New York City at Policy Institute office) REPORTS TO: Policy Institute Director SUMMARY: The Research and Policy Director is a senior level position at the Policy Institute the think tank of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force,based in New York City. The Research Director manages all aspects of the research, policy analysis and publications programs of the think-tank. The Policy Institute is a think tank dedicated to research, policy analysis, strategic projects and coalition building to advance the equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. The Institute produces and sponsors research that provides a factual backdrop for the work of GLBT advocates; it develops policy options and proposals on a wide range of public policy issues facing the GLBT communities; and it develops new strategies and projects which can help advance the GLBT movement. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: o Develop and strengthen a strategic research and policy analysis program at the Policy Institute think tank of NGLTF. o Manage all aspects of the Policy Institute's research and policy analysis projects, including developing and shaping ideas for new research projects with scholars and activists; management of multiple research projects; creation of production timelines; and supervision and management of the writing, design, production and distribution of all Policy Institute publications. o Outreach to and contact with wide and diverse range of academic based scholars, professional associations, other think tanks policy analysts and experts, activists and grassroots organizations. o Develop and expand funding sources for the research and policy projects of the Policy Institute. This will involve in many instances direct fundraising involvement with proposal writing. o Create and implement, with assistance from other staff and volunteers, distribution and marketing plans to communicate all Policy Institute research projects and publications to a broad array of audiences (from media to policy makers) o Develop and manage academic advisory panels and boards to help set research priorities and manage work; initiate specific meetings and mechanisms through which the Institute takes input from a diverse array of constituents. QUALIFICATIONS: o 5 years experience working in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender movement required o Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills required o Computer knowledge required (word processing and database management) o Experience with grant proposal writing and fundraising required o Ability to travel essential o Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment is essential o Creative vision, passionate commitment to GLBT issues, and experience in program development inside non-profit organizations required BENEFITS: o Salary commensurate with experience, range $40,000 - $50,000 o Full health benefits o Three weeks vacation annually.
