From lobngltf@aol.com Sun Oct 31 00:33:04 1993 National Gay & Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute 1734 14th St, NW, Washington, DC, 20009 DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC POLICY Start date: February 1, 1994 Salary range: $45,000 - $50,000 Benefits: Health insurance and vacation Application deadline: November 22, 1993 General Description Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Public Policy: 1) develops and implements NGLTF/PI program plan, 2) hires & supervises program directors, and 3) serves as a member of the management team. Specific Duties 1. Develops and implements NGLTF/PI program plan - conceives, develops & implements overall program plan and budget in cooperation with program directors - monitors overall program expenditures - serves as spokesperson for program department - convenes weekly program meetings - attends community events, conferences and rallies on behalf of the program department - Creating Change o attends weekly planning meetings o helps program conference o facilitates conference evaluation session 2) Hires & supervises NGLTF/PI program directors - hires directors of program departments - supervises and evaluates program directors 3) Serves as a member of the management team - attends weekly management team meetings - prepare monthly program staff reports to the Executive Director - works with Director of Development to develop ideas and assist in the preparation of grants, donor solicitations and donor materials related to the program department. - works with the Director of Public Information to review content of press releases, press plans and newsletter content related to the program department - works with the Deputy Director of Finance & Administration to prepare program budgets, budget adjustments, and other finance & administrative matters related to the program department. - other duties as assigned by the Executive Director Required Qualifications o Undergraduate degree. o Knowledge of rules/procedures of congress and federal agencies. o 5 years experience in lesbian/gay/bisexual organizing. o Excellent management skills. o Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. o Excellent media skills. o Ability to foster and develop working relationships and contacts, and to interact effectively in coalitions. o Travel required.
