GAY AND LESBIAN VETERANS POSTPONE PLANNED CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE;

RALLY TO URGE PRESIDENT:  "DO THE RIGHT THING"

Postponement in response to ongoing dialogue with White House staff;

Vets prepared for swift response if military ban not repealed

WHO:
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) and the Gay, Lesbian
and Bisexual Veterans of American (GLBVA)

WHAT:
Gay and lesbian veterans and their supporters will rally at the Lincoln
Memorial to urge President CLinton to "do the right thing" and repeal the
military's anti-gay policy.  News reports and information from White House
staff indicate internal conflict over Presidential policy announcement,
expected by Friday.

WHEN & WHERE:
Thursday, July 15, 1993 (the deadline for President Clinton's announcement):
12:00 p.m.: Rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, with the following
speakers:
--Dorothy Hajdys, mother of Allen Schindler, sailor slain in anti-gay attack
--Scott Peck, openly gay son of Col. Fred Peck who opposes lifting the ban
--Tanya Domi, former Army captain and director of the NGLTF Military
Freedom Initiative
--Rabbi Lynne Landsbergh, Religious Action Center of Reformed Judaism
--Tom Stoddard, Campaign for Military Service
--Rosemary Dempsey, National Organization for Women
