Lauderdale, Fl. 333302 M.Warren, Pres. September 3, 1996 The members and friends of the Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida have been quite adamant about the need for inclusion of sexual orientation within the Broward County Human Rights Ordinance. We have subsequently challenged the founders, followers, and members of "Take Back Broward" for outrageously denying such equality of access for us under the "Big Tent" party of Lincoln. The narrow agenda of the evangelical GOP political activists, promoting less than equal opportunity for non-heterosexuals- has faced another setback with the huge defeat of their star candidate and "Take Back Broward" leader Anna Mae French. We thank all those who believe in the American dream of "life, liberty, justice and the pursuit of happiness for all. We applaud those who voted "against" a suggested slate of candidates who have perceived gay women and men as their enemies, not their partners in the advancement of fiscal responsibility and social moderation within the Republican Party. The Broward win for Progressive Republicans Ken Wagner, Thomas Boyle, Ed Kennedy and Sharon Day over fundamentalists supported rivals once again sends a message to Pat Robertson, D.James Kennedy, James Dobson and others who refuse non-heterosexuals a place at the table. It's a reality call warning such separatists to vote on the candidate and issues along the lines of accountability, credibility and ethical performance not on what people perceive consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms. Such illusions have little to do with the time and effort individual devote to earning a living, paying their taxes, serving their country, and attempting to simple survive from day to day.
