Days, III Solicitor General of the U.S. Department of Justice 10th Street and Constitution Ave., NW Washington, D.C. 20530 Dear Solicitor General Days: I am writing to ask that you drop the government's appeal in the case of Cammermeyer v Aspin. In particular, I urge you to let the ruling of the U.S. District Court in Seattle stand so that Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer may continue to serve in the Washington State National Guard. Col. Cammermeyer came to the United States from Norway at the age of nine. In the 1960s she joined the U.S. Army as a student nurse at the rank of Lieutenant. By the late 1980s, as the result of her hard work and devotion to duty, she rose to the rank of full Colonel. Over the years she served in the U.S. Army, the Veteran's Administration and the Washington State National Guard. During her years in service, Col. Cammermeyer was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in Vietnam, the Veteran's Administration Administrator's Award for Excellence in Nursing and, in 1986, she received an "A" professional designation from the United States Army Surgeon General. Now the military wants to fire her because she is lesbian. In my view Col. Cammermeyer is an example all that is best in the American dream and the government's desire to fire such an exemplary and dedicated employee is an illustration of all that is wrong in big government. I urge you to withdraw the government's prosecution of Col. Cammermeyer and allow her to continue her excellent service to this nation. Yours truly,
