GLAAD URGES MEDIA TO CHALLENGE ANTI-GAY STATEMENTS: GLAAD encourages the news media to challenge the anti-gay statements that have been made by some candidates seeking the Republican party 1996 presidential nomination. "This kind of clear insensitivity and prejudice would not be tolerated if these comments were aimed at any other minority group, " noted Mark F. Johnson, GLAAD's News Media Director. "Does the media consider the gay community so much less important or worthy of respect that political figures can make controversial statements and go unchallenged?" GLAAD urges the press to expose racism, sexism, ageism, and other forms of bigotry, including bigotry against lesbians and gay men. For more information, contact Mark F.
