GLAAD ACKNOWLEDGES $1 MILLION GIFT

NEW YORK (July 9) -- The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation today
announced a $1 million contribution from New York finance executive
Michael Palm.  Palm's gift will be used to build media resource centers
across the country, and help convert GLAAD's existing chapters into
grassroots training centers and media access points for individuals and
organizations serving the lesbian and gay community.

While there have been larger contributions made to AIDS organization,
this unrestricted gift to GLAAD is believed to be the largest single
contribution by an individual to a national gay and lesbian
organization.

Palm has been major contributor to various charitable organizations, and
shown considerable generosity in promoting gay and lesbian causes. He
was enthusiatically supportive of GLAAD's plan to make media resources
available to activists and individuals at the local level, where it can
effect enormous change.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, founded in 1985, promotes
fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of individuals and events
in all media as a means of combating homophobia and all forms of
discrimination based on sexual orientation or identity. It is the only
national media watchdog for the gay and lesbian community and serves as
a resource to the news media on lesbian and gay issues.
